Three People Dead in Apparent New Year’s Day Altercation at Romance

New Year’s Day had a horrible beginning in the small White County town of Romance. Two people were shot and killed and later the suspect was shot by police and killed. The victims are 45-year-old Starla Exum of Romance and 54-year-old Timmy Dickson of Searcy. The suspect was 42-year-old Archie Lawhon III of Cabot. White County deputies were called to the scene of a shooting at about 1:30 p.m. at Starlight Lane and Sunset View in Romance. Deputies found two victims – a woman dead at the scene and a man who was wounded and died on the way to the hospital. The Ark. State Police assisted in the search for the suspect after deputies investigating the crime scene learned the suspect had a gun. He was confronted in the woods and would not put down his weapon. He was shot and killed by the police at about 3:15 p.m. The investigation is continuing and no motive has been determined.
