Larry and Belinda Shook Family Named 2017 White County Farm Family of the Year

The Larry and Belinda Shook Farm has been selected as the 2017 White County Farm Family of the Year. The farm is located 2 miles south of McRae City Hall and consists of approx. 1700 acres of which 800 acres of Bermuda grass for hay; 325 acres of wheat; 80 acres of corn silage; 80 acres of soybeans; 200 acres CRP and 150 acres of pasture for grazing with an additional pasture of 200 acres with son, Matt Shook. There are 160 head of cattle for breeding or with calves and 8 bulls – Angus and Charolais – for breeding. The farm as barn storage space to hold up to 90,000 square bales, 1000 large square bales and 400 round bales. Larry is a 4th generation farm family and also works full time as a Captain in the North Little Rock Fire Department. The major crop at Shook Farms is hay – which is sold from Ohio to Oaklawn. The Shook’s also started Total Erosion Control in 2008- which is a company that provides erosion control services for highway construction and other companies using the hay and straw from Shook Farms.
