Judd Burns, a youth member of Beebe First United Methodist Church, is attending the 2010 Global Young People’s Convocation in Berlin, Germany, July 20-28.
The process for selection to attend the convocation is a competitive application with a pool of nearly thirty qualified applicants.  This includes the submission of an essay explaining the reasons the applicant wishes to attend,  the reasons he or she is qualified, and a comprehensive interview before the body that votes for delegates. Five voting delegates were elected to represent an eight state jurisdiction at the convocation.
Judd was selected for this honor because of his service on United Methodist Youth organizational bodies and his attendance of both Annual and Jurisdictional Conferences over the past few years. These activities have helped prepare him for this important Christian youth undertaking.
In Berlin, Judd will be representing our church, our state, and our nation. He will be meeting with other youth delegates from across the globe. At this convocation, these global youth will bring together both concerns and praises of today, as well as their vision of the church as an instrument of change and solution through Jesus Christ. Here, direction for the future will be prayed for and sought. Decisions made here will be submitted for vote to the 2012 General Conference of the United Methodist Church.
Judd stated that he “wishes to thank each of you, my church family, for the guidance you have been in my life. I thank you for your support and prayers in this upcoming endeavor; I know that you will travel with me in spirit. I will do all I can to make your very proud.”
