Did you get to go to the city’s 4th of July celebration on July 3rd?  It was really fun!  Jason D. Williams is so talented and the crowd really loved him. He and his band put on a great show!  And the fireworks!  They were great!  It lasted about  20-30 minutes and they were just great!  A big thanks to the mayor and city council, Union Valley Baptist Church, American Legion Post 91 and everyone who had a hand in bringing the entertainment and fireworks display! Oh, a special thanks to the guys in our fire department who trained and got their special permits to buy and set off the fireworks! You did a great job!
Saturday morning, July 3rd, I went out to the annual Floyd 4th of July parade.  As I sat there waiting for the parade to start, watching all the people, I realized - as I do each year - that this is small-town America. You have all these people waiting to see the parade, kids waiting to get candy and beads thrown to them and then they have fun, food and games later at the Floyd Park. It was really neat to just be able to watch that. The parade was fun. Not as many horses this year for some reason. But there were plenty of little 4-wheelers - all decorated - and the Underwood family - from Louisiana was there in the parade as they are each year. It was fun to watch! I told my family that the sirens from the firetrucks were so loud that they made it rain a few drops during the parade. Is that possible?  I believe it!
So, having really two days for the holiday was kind of fun except for the animals who were scared to death from the fireworks. I feel sorry for them but don’t know what we could do to make it better. You know there are going to be fireworks!  This year, there must be some sort of new - even louder - type of explosive. I heard several of them and they literally shook the house. That had to really scare the animals. Unfortunately, my sister’s three outside dogs were scared and got out of their pen Sunday night and one of them got run over and killed. It was very sad. I feel so bad for them. I guess you have to look at it like they’re lucky that all three of them weren’t hurt or killed. Their dog that was killed came to them (was dropped off apparently) on Halloween several years ago so they named her Boo Boo. And then she died on July 4th. Strange. She was a very good dog.
I hope you’re having a good summer. Next week I’m going to show you a picture of my cat Simba’s new summer haircut. He looks so cute.
Go to your happy place.

See you next week.
