Richard Allison Evans, (retired USAF M/Sgt.) 81, of Lonoke passed away Friday, Jan. 28, 2010. Richard was born in Chicago, IL. to the late Joseph David and Joe-Celia Evans.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby Healy Evans, and siblings: Iona Haubold, Olive Schnurstein, Walter Evans, Russell Evans, and Eugene Evans. He is survived by his wife, Estella Maynard Evans; one son and daughter-in-law, Patrick and Paula Evans of Texarkana; one daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Ted Ante of Little Rock; three step-sons and their wives, Jeff and Callie Tidwell of Lonoke, Jim and Shannon Tidwell of Lonoke, Jim and Lisa Hensley of Greenbrier; and one step-daughter and her husband, Kathy and Peter Gaccione of Norcross, GA; 5 grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.
Richard enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1948, discharged in 1951, re-enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1951 and retired in 1974 at the rank of Master Sargeant. He served in the Korean Conflict and was decorated with the Bronze Star for service in Viet Nam.
Richard was a Master Mason; a member of Alpha Lodge #172 in Ft Walton Beach, Florida; a member of the VFW and American Legion.
Richard was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Lonoke, enjoying the fellowship of his extended family and serving in numerous positions.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, at First United Methodist Church of Lonoke. Interment will follow at AR State Veterans Cemetery, 1501 W. Maryland Ave, N. Little Rock. The family will receive friends from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., Thursday at the church, Center at Pine, Lonoke, AR 72086, and (501) 676-6767.
In lieu of flowers, memorials maybe made to Lonoke First United Methodist Church.
