Candais Penn, 21,  of Beebe, along with her two small children were driving east bound on Campbell Drive  Thursday, Nov. 26th, when she ran off the road and struck a power pole, according to Beebe Police Lt. Brian Duke.
The impact spun her vehicle sideways into a support pole.  Both of these poles along with a transformer and power lines were knocked down onto and around the car.  The police and fire departments responded and had to shut down a small section of Campbell Drive for over six hours due to the ”hot” power lines that were on the roadway.  The driver and her small children were transported to the White County Medical Center where they were treated for injuries received in the accident and later released.
According to the driver,  she attempted to slow down for the curve but was unable to do so due to possible mechanical problems with the vehicle.  After her vehicle broke the first two poles, two more poles broke due to the tension that they were under.  Entergy crews had to be called in to reset new poles and some power lines.  Entergy advised that power was out from around Center St. and  Dewitt Henry Dr. to El-Paso.
The driver had her seat belt on and both her children were in car seats at the time of the accident.  Apparently, bystanders who drove by pulled the driver and her children out of the car, according to police reports.
Alice Lercher, spokesperson for Entergy, said that 447 residential customers, 12 commercial customers and 2 industrial customers were affected by the outage which lasted 4 hours.
