What started as a stranded motorist ended up being a 3-vehicle accident with several people injured around 9:12 a.m. Monday, Nov. 23rd on Hwy. 67/167 at the 31-mile marker in Beebe.
Harold Mourning, 72, was standing outside his early model Dodge pick-up when a good Samaritan, Anthony Ballard, Jr., of Beebe, stopped to help him. As the two men were standing outside the stranded vehicle on the shoulder of the southbound lane, Kenneth Christian, 25, was travelling southbound in the left-hand lane of Hwy. 67/167 and for unknown reasons, came across both lanes and struck the two pedestrians, according to Ark. State Police Trooper Jennifer Mittlestat. Christian’s vehicle rolled and landed upside down on the west side of the interstate. The two pedestrians, Mourning and Ballard, were taken to White County Medical Center with extensive injuries. Christian was taken to White County Medical Center, treated and released.
While this accident was being worked, another vehicle, a van, being driven in the northbound lane was involved in an accident at the same area. The person in the van was taken to White County Medical Center with unknown injuries. Ark. State Trooper Ray Ervin worked the accident but was unavailable for comment.
