City of McRae Receives Grant for Wood Chipper

Nov 5th, 2009 | By admin | Category: Community

The City of McRae received a grant for $18,750 from White River Regional Solid Waste Management district toward the purchase of a wood chipper. The city bought a 2010 Bandit 9’ trailer mounted horizontal feed disc wood chipper from Henard Utility Products, Inc. of Searcy for $24,500.
The city has provided pick up service of limbs and vegetative debris removal for its citizens for many years. The addition of the portable chipper will help to eliminate the need to pick up and transport to a location for destruction. The debris will be turned into mulch and will then be available for the citizens at no charge.
Frankie Miller, city staff member, has served as grant coordinator for the past year. The wood chipper grant money is the 4th grant she has applied for and received this year.
Other grants received this year include $20,000 to help with an emergency back-up water system connection to SOWCO; two $2,998 grants from the 2010 U.S. Census for the City of McRae and McRae Fire Dept. These two grants were given to purchase items that were given away at the McRae Community Fest held Sat., Oct. 24th.
Ms. Miller says that the first one was the hardest nut to crack but looks forward to continuing to work towards obtaining more worthwhile and badly needed projects to benefit the citizens of McRae and the surrounding community.
