Museum Program Shows the Tricks Behind the Treats
Oct 22nd, 2009 | By admin | Category: EntertainmentLittle Rock, AR: This year, when you say “trick or treat” at the Museum of Discovery, you just might get both. Bewitching Chemistry runs Thursday through Saturday, October 22-24 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Professors and graduate students from Arkansas State University will conduct lab classes throughout the day, including:
• Electroplating, a process that uses electrical current to coat an object with a thin layer of a material
• Metalflame tests, colorful displays of how different chemicals burn
• Gas discharge tubes, that demonstrate how gases emit color when energized
“Back by popular demand are the pumpkin activities, including Pukin Pumpkin,” says Carol Couser, Museum Educator. When asked for specifics, Carol’s eyes glitter. ”Let’s just say that we entertain as well as educate. Things have been known to explode.”
School and community groups can schedule private shows on Thursday and Friday, October 22 and 23. On Saturday, activities are open to the general public, and are FREE with museum admission with no reservations required. To make a group reservation, contact Beth Nelsen at bnelsen@amod.org or 501-396-7061.
