Several Plead Guilty to Charges

Beebe Police Chief Wayne Ballew reported that additional individuals arrested and charged with felony narcotics violations have pled guilty to their charges in the White County Circuit Court.  He identified the violators which entered guilty pleas on September 1st, 2009 as Donald D. Offord, 34, of Beebe and said that Offord admitted to selling cocaine two times in Beebe.  “Donald Offord was on parole at the time of the incidents and received a 22-year sentence in the Arkansas Department of Corrections,” said Ballew.  Travis T. Dates, 22, of Beebe pled guilty to possession of methamphetamine and was sentenced to 36-months probation and fined $1,000.00.
On September 2nd, Brittany L. Reveley, 22, of Ward, pled guilty to “Fraudulent acquisition of a schedule II controlled substance - Lortab.”  She was arrested on January 27th, 2009 by Chief Ballew and Asst. Chief Ron Lewis after she attempted to gain the narcotic drug with a forged prescription at Fred’s Pharmacy in Beebe.  Reveley was sentenced to 36-months probation for the attempt.
On September 9th, Cody Nicholas Chastain, 22, of Beebe pled guilty to one count of delivery of marijuana and was sentenced to 24-months in an Arkansas Department of Corrections Regional Correction Facility.  Chastian was on probation at the time of his narcotics violation for residential burglary and theft of property.  His probation was revocated by the court and the time given will run concurrent with the drug charge sentence.  Chief Ballew said, “Since January 2008, 37 suspects have pled guilty to 91 felony narcotics charges filed by this department.”  Fines totaling $92,700.00 were also ordered regarding the sum of the cases.  Ballew said that his officers have only had to go to court on one individual that pled not guilty to selling cocaine three (3) times in Beebe.  “Cornelius D. Earl, of Judsonia demanded a jury trial and one was held in Searcy on May 11th and 12th, 2009.  A jury found Earl guilty as charged and sentenced him to eighty years (80) years in prison and fined him $75,000.00. and that brings the total up to 38 individuals convicted of felony drug charges and 94 cases closed.”
The Chief said that he is very proud of his officers dedication and hard work but also said that he was very pleased with the manner in which Prosecutor Chris Raff and his staff have pursued Beebe’s drug cases.  He said that all of those at the Prosecutor’s Office are to be praised and he is very grateful to Deputy Prosecutor Becky Reed who handles most of the narcotics violations in White County. “I just can’t say enough good things about Becky Reed!” said Ballew.
