A Day of Caring 2014 Medical Mission Set for Aug. 2

As part of White County Medical Center’s mission to improve the quality of health and well-being of local residents, the hospital is planning the 18th annual A Day of Caring. The medical mission will be held Saturday, Aug. 2, from 9 a.m. to Noon in the Ganus Athletic Center on the campus of Harding University.

A Day of Caring is a community-wide outreach program designed to help uninsured and underinsured residents of White County. Free medical, dental and eye screenings will be provided; additional services available include immunizations, pap exams and blood pressure checks. Participants will have access to information on social services available locally. Items such as school supplies, Bibles, children’s socks, shoes and underwear, diapers, bags of groceries, and personal care products will also be distributed. Please note that children must be present to receive school supplies, socks/shoes/underwear and diapers.

White County Medical Center Chief Medical Officer, Dr. John Henderson, has served at A Day of Caring for the past five years.

“I believe it’s important for physicians to be able to provide care to those in need,” Henderson said. “A Day of Caring allows us to help care for those who are underinsured or have no other means of accessing the needed medical attention. I also feel that often times the doctors benefit more from this event than the patients do sometimes, in that we get to use our abilities to help people. My responsibility as a Christian is to help those in need and I’m thankful to God for those given skills and opportunity to serve.”

The 21st Annual Shots for Tots and Teens will be held in conjunction with A Day of Caring. A parent or guardian is required to bring the child’s shot record in order to receive immunizations.

Partnerships between WCMC and community businesses and organizations, along with hundreds of nurses, WCMC associates and volunteers throughout Searcy, are vital to the success of the outreach program. Last year, more than 500 extraordinary volunteers united to provide needed services that helped more than 1,430 people.
