What’s Left?

Can you believe the weather we’re having this week? Wow! Today (Tues.) the weather feels like Fall. The temperature is about 83-degrees but the humidity is very low for July in Arkansas. It’s great. But – I’m here at work and not getting to enjoy the weather outside. But I’m glad some of you are.

Remember a few months ago I published a picture of my pineapple plant. Well, it grew a little more and the stalk that was supporting it kept trying to fall and we propped it up but it kept trying to fall so I finally decided to harvest the pineapple. After cutting it off the plant, I left it on the counter for a couple of days and then I decided to go ahead and slice it and see if it was ripe. I didn’t know how to tell on the outside – but I knew it was or wasn’t and that it was time to find out. Well, I cut the top off and placed it in a bowl with a little water so that I could plant it in a day or two. Then I sliced it into about five slices. It was just exactly the right ripeness. Those slices were great!  I was so excited to have grown it and harvested it at the right time. It took about 2 years from when I planted it until I harvested the pineapple. One plant makes one pineapple and sometimes has a couple of little shoots that you could plant and sometimes they make into another pineapple. But mainly – it’s one plant and one pineapple. That’s a long time to wait but it was worth it.    I planted the pineapple top and in a couple of years – hopefully I will have another pineapple. If you want to plant one, call me or  go on the internet and look it up. They really have lots of info on pineapples.

My cats are loving this weather. They go out on the screened-in porch and watch the birds and just enjoy the weather we’re having right now. They actually like it when it’s hot. The other day when it felt like 100-degrees out – they were out on the porch with two fans on them. They had a choice of being on the porch or coming back into their air conditioned area – but several stayed out on the porch.

I hope you and your family are having a great summer. Remember that school starts August 18th – so you don’t have too much time left to enjoy time together.

Go to your happy place.

See you next week.
