What’s Left?Jul 10th, 2014 | By admin | Category: Opinion
I hope you all had a great 4th of July celebration – whether you came to the city’s extravaganza or had a celebration at home or with friends. The weather was fantastic. It almost felt a little “fall-ish” with the humidity being so low (for here). The high that day was about 83 degrees. One of the coolest 4th of July holidays in my memory. It was great.
The city’s event at the city park was great. I bet there were about 1,000 people there. I didn’t get over there until about 7:30 p.m. and the first band (302 N. Main) had already finished. Sorry I missed them. I heard they were really good. Shortly after I arrived, The Soulsations started playing. They were really good and had lots of energy. They got lots of people up to dance. It was really fun. And there was a good variety of free food: Gracepoint offered nachos, Open Arms offered corn dogs, Union Valley offered hot dogs and hamburgers, American Legion offered watermelon slices, Lions Club offered lemonade and the city offered a variety of drinks and ice cream.
There was a waterslide – which I found out the hard way that you don’t stand directly at the bottom. Big splash. Had nice cooling wet pants for part of the night. Thanks, watersliders!!!:) The United Methodist Church had an area of face painting and lots of young kids were enjoying having that done. All in all – it was a great night – capped off with a great fireworks display. And speaking of display – three of our Beebe Volunteer Firemen gave demonstration of rappelling down a line off the ladder truck. Grant Warner, Brian Mills and Vaudie McAfee took several turns off the top of the 80ft. ladder truck and showed how firefighters can quickly come down from a building or the ladder when the situation dictates.
A big “Thank You” to the City of Beebe, city council and mayor and everyone who worked so hard to prepare the park for the 4th of July Extravaganza. It was really nice!
Go to your happy place.
See you next week.
