Father’s Day is this Sunday - don’t forget your dad!
My dad has been gone since 1991 and I really miss him. Each Father’s Day (and lots of days during the year) I think about all the funny things my dad used to say and do. I won’t share them here because they might not seem funny to you since you probably didn’t know him. But among family members there are certainly some things that we all remember. But some of the good qualities that he had I will share with you. He was the most forgiving person I’ve ever met. He never held a grudge - or if he did - I never knew it or could tell. He was very open and forthright with everyone - in a nice way. In his latter years, he became a Bible scholar. He read the Bible or studied the Bible for many hours each day. Then he would tell me all about “The Rapture” - which I had never heard about at the time. He would say, “Listen, don’t you want to know what’s going to happen in the last days?” I would ignorantly say, “You’ll tell me when it’s happening…” But we had a funny banter that we shared about Biblical things. He was not the best person as far as showing love - but he also didn’t show anger. I can’t ever remember seeing him really angry. I saw him slightly mad - but never really angry. He never raised his voice to me or anyone -that I ever heard. And if he got mad or upset - he got over it in about 3 minutes. I took after him in that respect for many years. Not so sure now. It may have rolled over into “I may forgive - but I won’t forget.” Of course, that is neither scriptural or healthy for you. Really - I do forget but it is more a physiological thing than something I can take credit for.
Anyway - I hope that you and your dad have a good day!
Happy Father’s Day to all you dads out there!
Go to your happy place.
See you next week.
