Ark. Highway Dept. Plans Widening 3 Miles of Hwy. 64 West Project will be bid in 2016Jan 9th, 2014 | By admin | Category: Top Story
The Ark. Highway and Transportation Dept. held a public meeting Dec. 17th, 2013 at Crosspoint Ministries to get comments on the proposed widening of a 3-mile portion of Hwy. 64 West.
The project will include widening the existing road which is two 12-foot lanes with 8-foot shoulders, to a new 4-lane facility with painted median (turn lane). The 4 thru lanes will each be 12 feet and the painted median will be 11 feet with 8-foot shoulders, according to AHTD spokesman Danny Straessle.
“This makes for a total of 35-foot wider pavement which we are widening evenly to both sides,” according to Straessle.
The project is scheduled to be let in 2016 and should take roughly a year and a half to complete.
The proposed widening will start at the first big curve west of Beebe on Hwy. 64 and continue for 3 miles.
