Pioneer Village to Host 2nd Christmas Open HouseDec 5th, 2013 | By admin | Category: Entertainment
Santa will be coming to Pioneer Village on Saturday, December 7th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. He and his sleigh will be there to help start the Christmas Season. Bring your list of wishes to tell Santa.
In addition to Santa, all the buildings at the village will be open and decorated similar to the late 1800’s. This is a step back in time to see Christmas as it used to be. No LED lights here, just strings of popcorn, snowflakes, paper chains and other décor that a farm family would have in the late 1800’s, early 1900’s.
In the school, we will have the community Christmas tree. In earlier days, the community gathered at the schoolhouse for a Christmas party. Decorations for the tree were made by various Girl Scout Troops in the county. The sounds of the old pump organ in the school/church will fill the building with songs of Christmas. Children may decorate their own sugar cookie in the school.
Even our “newest” old building, our Trappers Cabin, will have some greenery. There is still work to do on the inside but it is finished on the outside. Come check it out.
Visitors will be served hot cider and a sugar cookie. The recipe for the cookies is more than 125 years old. We can even share the recipe with you!
There will be roaming carolers throughout the village in addition to other Christmas music.
The Friends of Pioneer Village will be in period costumes as well as presenting various pioneer crafts. Even the farm animals will be adorned with their best ribbons and bows.
Young and old alike may have their photo made with Santa and his sleigh for a small donation to the village, but you must bring your own cameras.
The Garner Depot Gift Shop has just the gift for everyone on your list. Included are handmade wooden toys, aprons, books, walking sticks, stocking stuffers and mush, much more. Toy trains will also be displayed in the depot by Arkansas Traveler Hobbies, Bald Knob.
Baked goods will be available for sale. Come pick out your selection of goodies!
Admission is free.
