Alma - The Badger football team traveled to Alma to face the Airedales in the 1st round of the 2013 High School playoffs, on Friday night, November 15th, but fell short 49-23 in a game that wasn’t decided until late in the game.

The Badgers rushed the ball 67 times for 293 yards – which accounted for their total yards in the game – as quarterback Micah Dubose was unable to complete any of his 5 passing attempts and had an interception, which was the only Badger turnover of the night.

Trip Smith, who rushed 35 times for 146 yards, led the Badgers. For the season, Trip rushed the ball 312 times for a total of 1928 yards and 25 touchdowns, as only a sophomore. He ranked in the top 5 of all Arkansas running backs in total yards for the regular season. Trip has a very bright future in his final 2 seasons as a Badger. The Badgers rushed for a total of 3,573 yards for the season – while passing for a total of 320 yards – giving themselves 3,893 total offensive yards for the season – while holding their opponents to only 3,749 yards offensively for the season.

Also leading the ground attack against the Airedales with 86 yards on 12 carries was Dakota Mahoney and Micah Dubose who had 72 yards on 14 carries.

The Airedales were held in check by the Badger defense as they only rushed for 90 yards on 21 carries and passed for 197 yards on 7 of 10 attempts – for 287 total yards. They also turned the ball over one time.

The Badger Senior class, which was anchored by Brandon Anderson, Justin Anderson, Ethan Baldree, Marcus Burns, Jesse Glover, Josh Griffith, Buck Henry, Dakota Mahoney, Race Payne, Dustin Skinner, Gus Wisdom and Daniel Gann, made it to the State Playoffs in all three years while at Beebe High School. Quite an impressive feat for these young men, whom Coach Shannon is very proud of, on and off the field. The Badgers finished the season with a 5-6 record.

The future is bright for the Badgers – who have several 9th graders’ moving up to the senior squad next year, after winning their division this year. It’s a good time to be a Badger!

Now we turn our attention to Badger basketball season – which tips off Friday night, November 22nd at Badger Arena – when the boys and girls teams both host Vilonia. Following that is another double-header against Hot Springs Lakeside at Badger Arena on November 26th  - start times will be at 6 p.m. for both nights. Coach Marshall and Coach Richey have several new faces on their teams this year and the action looks to be fast and furious again!! You better get there early to assure yourself of a good seat as this season gets underway!
