A new staff member has been added to Badger Elementary school for the 2013-2014 school year!  Korie, a flat coated retriever, is now on staff as the school’s therapy dog.  Korie works daily with the students at Badger Elementary by attending character education classes with Mrs. Jolly, reading with students throughout the day, and promoting a positive environment.  Korie has completed an intensive six months of training with the Arkansas Department of Corrections Paws in Prison Program where she was paired with inmate trainers that prepared her for work in the school setting.  Korie will be certified through the nonprofit organization Paws-4-Hope LCA.  This program works with Paws in Prison to train and place therapy dogs in various settings.  Korie is the first dog to be placed in a school full time. Now that Korie has met all of her training hours she will receive her certified vest at a ceremony held at the Beebe Auditorium at 8:15 November 18, 2013. Community members are invited to attend the event.  To help support this program or for more information on the program and Korie you may visit the website at Paws4HopeLCA.org.
