Badgers Continue Winning WaysOct 31st, 2013 | By admin | Category: Sports
Paragould– The Badger football team traveled to Paragould Friday night, October 25th to take on division foe Green County Tech and after falling behind after the 1st quarter, turned it on offensively and defensively and brought home a hard fought 47-27 victory.
The Badgers effectively used their “ground and pound” offence to rack up 448 total yards on 64 carries. Tripp Smith led the way once again with 175 yards rushing on 32 carries. Smith was helped out in the rushing game by Dakota Mahoney who had an impressive 80 yards on only 11 carries and Jesse Crisco who broke the century mark for the 1st time of the year, with 133 yards on the ground on only 10 carries.
The Badger defensive unit was again stellar in the 2nd half, forcing 2 Golden Eagle turn overs to start the 2nd half while forcing 3 for the game – with the offensive unit only giving the ball up once all night. Another huge stat this year has been penalties. The Badgers only had 15.5 yards of penalties against GCT and have had less than 100 yards in penalties over the last 4 games. The sign of a good, maturing young team - that is well coached on both ends of the field.
The Golden Eagles were held to 48 yards rushing by the Badger defense on 24 carries and amassed 408 yards passing on 27 of 37 passing attempts.
The win moves the Badgers record to 5-3 (4-1 in the 5A East Conference) with another tough Conference road game coming up against a much-improved Nettleton Raider team next Friday night. The Badgers last home game looks to be huge, as they end their home season against Conference foes Batesville Pioneers, at Bro Erwin Stadium, Wooten Field on November 8th at 7p.m., in a game that will have huge Conference playoff implications.
