Are You Ready For Some Football?!?Sep 5th, 2013 | By admin | Category: Sports
This proves to be another very interesting football season at Beebe High School. With only a handful of returning Seniors – Coach John Shannon is going to be faced with playing another season with mainly Juniors and Sophomores. But, this year is different in the aspect that those returning players have experience in game situations after last season.
After speaking with Coach Shannon recently at Media Day, he had this to say about his returning players and the season that lies ahead.
“I’m looking for consistency this year out of our young team, Coach Shannon said. Our kids have been tested in all the key positions on Friday Night’s and I’m looking for that experience to carry over to this year.”
“We need to get a good start against Greenbrier, Lonoke and Vilonia before Conference play starts to get our momentum going and I think we’ll be ok, as long as we stay healthy,” Coach Shannon stated.
Offensively, Coach Shannon will be leaning heavily on returning Junior quarterback Aaron Nunez and three- year starter Race Payne on the offensive line.
Defensively Coach Shannon is turning to three-year starters Marcus Burns, Gus Wisdom, Daniel Gann and Dusty Skinner (who returns after an injury that kept him sidelined all of last season) to lead the way. Coach Shannon praised Skinner for his hard work and determination in his re-hab and looks for him to anchor the defense this season.
Coach Shannon concluded by saying, “More kids came out this year than ever before in the history of the program and we had a great practice camp. Everyone worked real hard and I’m excited about getting the season started .
The season starts Friday night at Bro. Erwin Stadium when this young, hungry team of Badgers face Greenbrier in the season opener! It’s going to be a great night for some football – so come out and support the Badgers in their season opener! Gates open at 6 p.m. with the game starting at 7:00 p.m.
