What’s Left?

I was looking at one of those “here’s what we’re celebrating” calendars the other day and here are a few of the things we just passed or are coming up this next week:

International Bat Night, Aug. 24-Aug. 25th

Be Kind to Humankind Week, Aug. 25-Aug. 31; National Safe at Home Week, Aug. 26-Aug. 30; National Championship Chuckwagon Races, Aug. 31-Sept.2; National Dog Day- Aug. 26; Women’s Equality Day, Aug. 26; Hurricane Katrina Strikes Gulf Coast Anniversary, 2005, Aug. 29; National Holistic Pet Day, Aug. 30th; Diana Pricess of Wales Death Anniversary, 1997, Aug. 31st.

I hate that I missed - or forgot - to tell my dogs that it was National Dog Day on  Monday. I’ll make it up to them on Tuesday. I did go swimming with two of them Monday.

Then I wonder how the Women’s Equality Day came just after the Dog Day. Maybe it’s because women love dogs….?

I do love International Bat Night and Be Kind to Humankind Week….always something to celebrate if you are of a mind to celebrate.

My cats have been somewhat frustrating lately. Yesterday morning I found that they had broken two of their food bowls (why would I have glass food bowls anyway?) and basically torn up their room. Then, one was sick that had been on the mend previously - it was just a bad beginning to the day. But, after focusing on one task at a time, I got it somewhat back to normal and  am now using stainless steel bowls - which I should have been doing anyway.  But it proved to be a sour start to what is always a hard day for me - Monday. I know that is just all in my mind - but it just seems to ring true every week.

On another note - this is a story about living in a small town. The other day I was trying to call a person I was going to meet and take their picture. Instead, I crossed up the numbers and got the wrong person. A woman answered the phone and I asked for the man for whom I was supposed to take the picture. The woman said, “There is no Mr. ‘X’ here.” I recognized her voice and identified myself. She said, “Oh, Lee - so nice to talk to you, etc., etc. and ended with ‘love you!’”

How many places in this world can you get a wrong number and then know who it is by their voice on the other end and then that person tell you that they enjoyed talking with you and end it with, luv you!?

It’s just funny and sweet. Nice talking to you, too, Mrs. Frances Kennedy! You are a sweetheart!

There are so many sweet people in this town and it’s just good to get out and talk to them - even if just by phone!

I’ve been having some weird dreams lately (must be the blue moon effect) - but the other night I dreamed there were a “herd” of cats with two heads in town. My vet found them and I asked him what they were called - meaning the medical term - so I could report about it. He answered, in my dream, “Freaks!”  It’s nice to have funny dreams rather than nightmares. As far as I know - there are no two-headed cats in town. If you see one - let me know!

Go to your happy place.

See you next week!
