The El Paso Extension Homemakers met Monday, August 12th for their regularly scheduled meeting with 18 members and five visitors present.  President Janet Blansett welcomed Katie Cullum, White County Extension Agent, and other guests including Lindsey Haller, the Fair Queen representative for the El Paso Club.  Lindsey is the daughter of Marsha and Bryan Haller of Beebe and the Great Granddaughter of El Paso EHC member Gladys Pope. Other guests were Grant Haller and Tori Lovelady.

The inspirational moment was given by Secretary Marisue Jones. Roll call was answered by each member describing a negative drug interaction experience as well as reporting 451 volunteer hours for the month.   Business items included President Blansett reminding the group that the Fair Queen Tea will be held August 24th at Valley Baptist Church in Searcy, and the club has been asked to provide cookies, chips and salsa. Janet also announced gift baskets will be given to the judges during the tea, and items such as home canned goods, craft items, etc. would be appreciated to help fill the baskets. The Fair Booth committee reported preparations for the booth, “Get Ticked Off”, are well underway with posters being made, the handout is ready and has been turned in to the Extension Office in Searcy. Informational pamphlets on ticks, provided by the Arkansas Department of Health, have been received and will be available in the booth.  Other business items included reminders about the Fall Council to be held October 8th at Harding University.

A very informative program on Drug Interaction was presented by President Blansett.  The program consisted of a survey on “What you knew about Drug Interaction” before the program” and “What you know” after the program. Information was also presented on “Common Drug Interactions”, “Dietary Supplements Culprits” and “Drug with other drug culprits”.  The group decided during the next meeting they will put together “personal care kits” for parents who have to stay with their children at    Arkansas Children’s Hospital. The El Paso club meets on the seconded Monday each month at the El Paso First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, anyone wishing to join the group is welcome.  Contact Janet Blansett 501-605-0679 for more information.
