When you write a weekly column - you are constantly thinking about what you are going to write for the next week. Literally, a thousand subjects go through my mind from one week to the next or some thought passes through my brain and I say to myself, “I’m going to remember that and write about it.”  Of course, unless I write it down at that moment - it is gone - probably for eternity. So, with that being said, I will say that instead of writing about several of the thoughts that came through my brain this past week that are not related to 4th of July - I am going to write about the city’s 4th of July event held at the city park.

I was lucky enough to get to stay above the crowd during the fireworks display in the bucket of the fire department’s ladder truck. I think we were about 60 ft. or so. It was definitely the best “seat” in the house. I say “seat” in quotes because we actually had no seat and had to stand the whole time - no big deal. Thanks to Dodie and to Vaudie McAfee for hanging out with me up there. It was fun! But from that vantage point, you could see all the vehicles and people down below. I do believe there were about 1,000 vehicles - and they were still lined up to come in as the fireworks display began. So, there were probably between 2,000 and 2,500 people in attendance. It was a great day as so many of the churches and civic organizations were giving free food - hamburgers, hot dogs, nachos, watermelon, and more. The entertainment was very good. The Wine & Roses band were very good and Sonny Burgess and the Pacers kept the place rockin’ right up until the fireworks began.  There were lots of kids and adults in the city pool cooling off and having a good time!  I’m hoping all those that were in line to swim got to swim for a time before it was time to get out.

A big “Thank You” to the mayor and city council for putting on this gift to the citizens of Beebe. The fireworks were great! A big thanks to the firemen who went to special training so they could use the professional fireworks!  Thanks!!!! I know that the city will start planning next year’s event in the next few weeks!  It’s great to have a super 4th of July and not have to leave town!

Go to your happy place!

See you next week!
