What’s Left?

This next week - 4th of July week - will be somewhat different than in past years as we are having the celebration (the city celebration) at the city park rather than at the city hall complex like in past years. The reason is that the new library is under construction on the grounds of city hall. It remains to be seen whether next years celebration will be at the city hall complex or stay at the city ball park. There is plenty of room at the park and the swimming pool will be open and free for those wanting to cool off - and it looks like that will be a great draw since temperatures have hit the 90’s this past week and are predicted to continue and even get higher - as is usual this time of year. We will have two different groups providing entertainment at the 4th of July celebration: Wine & Roses - a group that performs 60’s & 70’s music beginning at 6 p.m. and then at 7:30 p.m. Sonny Burgess an the Pacers will perform. Then at dark -we will have the spectacular fireworks display under the direction of several Beebe Volunteer Firemen who received specialized training so that they can shoot the more powerful fireworks.

Several of the local churches and civic organization will provide free refreshments and the park’s concession stand will be open if you feel the need to purchase something extra- although you will be able to get free drinks and ice cream there at the concession stand. All in all - it should be a great time with plenty of room to bring the whole family.  Bring your lawn chairs. I hope you find time to come out and enjoy this gift from the city.

I’ve always liked this time of year and especially the 4th of July. I like fireworks but would rather see them than set them off myself. My poor animals are petrified of all the blasts. I feel sorry for them. I guess they think it is thunder or gunfire - at any rate - it scares them. I’m not sure if they ever look up in the sky to see any of the fireworks - but the sound pretty much makes them hide. But since a dog is supposed to hear so much better than us - no telling how loud it sounds to them. That’s why I quit target practicing in my backyard - because it scared the dogs too much.

I hope you are having a good summer!  Please make plans to come out to the city’s 4th of July celebration.

Go to your happy place!

See you next week!
