ASU-Beebe: Auditions Set for Summer Theater PresentationMay 23rd, 2013 | By admin | Category: Entertainment
Auditions for the Arkansas State University-Beebe summer theater production of “Wiley and the Hairy Man,” will be held Friday, May 24 at 7 p.m., and Saturday, May 25 at 2 p.m. at the Owen Center Theater.
The auditions are open to community members to participate, and being an ASU-Beebe student is not a requirement. Auditions will consist of provided readings, and those wishing to audition should be prepared to move, sing and improvise. No other preparation or experience is necessary.
“Wiley and the Hairy Man” was adapted by Jack Stokes, and is a southern folk fable intended for the entire family. The publisher’s web site promoted the play as follows: ‘Like Aesop’s Fables, Wiley and the Hairy Man is drawn from native folk wisdom … “Outwit the Hairy Man three times and he won’t scare you ever again,” says Mammy. Trembling, Wiley sets out for the woods, prepared to confront the Hairy Man … looks fear in the face and outwits it. The adventures are presented in lyric, poetry, and mime.’
The Theater Department will be casting for the roles of Wiley, Mammy, The Hairy Man, as well as other characters and chorus members. There are some casting possibilities for older children; however these parts would represent a time commitment for those chosen. Rehearsals will be held evenings and weekends.
“Wiley and the Hairy Man” is set to perform at the end of June. For more information, contact Bruce Cohen, assistant professor of theater, at (501) 882-8925 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
