This past Thursday I was honored by the Beebe Chamber of Commerce as their Citizen of the Year. I really appreciate that honor and had a great time at the banquet listening to Craig O’Neal and seeing the other honorees - Mayor Mike Robertson, Lifetime Achievement Award winner and Educator of the Year Mackye Sandlin. I enjoyed having many of my family members there with me as well as friends and so many local friends. It was a great honor and I will always remember it. Thanks, Chamber!

Another special event occured last week and that was that my youngest niece graduated from UCA. She was honored as the top student in the Dept. of Education - and that was great!  As I sat there watching all the future teachers during the pinning ceremony Friday night, I kept thinking about all that teachers have to do and the tremendous responsibility they have teaching our children. At the pinning ceremony, the teachers heard from the superintendent of Conway Schools and he was telling them that the best teachers teach from the heart - that you have to love your students for you to be able to get through to them. It brought to mind that horrible tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary at Newtown Conn., where 20 young children and six adults were killed by a lone gunman. I will always remember seeing this beautiful young teacher talking about it on television and  said she gathered her young students together and she told them in a calm voice to remember that “I love you.” She said she told them this because she thought it might be the last thing they ever heard. That touched me so much - that even now- it brings  tears to my eyes. Now that is the kind of teacher you want teaching your children. I believe there are many of them out there and I know that my niece, Hannah Musto, will be one of them.  And - since this is National Teacher Appreciation Week - I just want to say how much we appreciate your dedication and committment to our youth - the future of our nation.

Another GREAT NEWS - 3 women who have been missing in Ohio for 10 years or more - have been found safe!!!! That is wonderful news! Thank God!!!  Such an amazing story! Pray for their recovery and happiness in the future!

Go to your happy place!

See you next week!
