The regular monthly meeting of the Beebe School Board was Monday night, April 8th.

Superintendent Dr. Belinda Shook told the board about some legislative bills and acts that have passed or may pass during this session that will have an impact on the finances of the district. Act 517 (which has passed) will require the district to pay an additional $19 for each staff member to raise the insurance contribution to $150. This will cost the district approx. $100,000 per year. SB811 is a bill which, if passed, will take money from some schools and give it to high poverty schools. This bill may impact the district in the amount of $360,000 per year.  Dr. Shook believes this bill will have some modifications before it passes - if it passes.

In action items, the board approved the salary schedule presented at the March meeting for the certified and classified employees - as well as the stipend schedule. The 2013-2014 calendar which was also presented at the March meeting was also approved. It includes a week off at Thanksgiving and the last day of school will be May 30th.

The board approved the following resignations and employment:

Resignations - John Grade, mathematics, effective April 18.

Employ New Staff - Mr. Travis Barrentine, Assistant Principal at High School 11-12; Ms. Alison Cannon, Mathematics Teacher, High School 11-12; Mr. Nathan Totten, Spanish Teacher, High School 11-12; and Chief Leslie Snyder, JROTC Instructor, High School.
