The other day I saw a show on PBS about your brain. Now, I should be able to tell you all the info about it like title, subject matter, etc. - but obviously - my brain does not work exactly as I would like. Sure, I could look it up - as I DVR’ed it. But, I am going to tell you what I do remember about it. One - to have a healthy brain, you have to focus on one thing at a time. This multi-tasking thing just means you do several things in a half-way manner. That’s not me saying it. It was the neurologist (head doctor). Two - you have a healthier brain if you are social. (I hated this one as I am basically a hermit.) But you really need to socialize to increase your brain power. Three - you can remember things if you are paying attention to what you are doing (doing one thing at a time). Obviously - I was not just doing one thing as I was watching that tv show. I was doing some computer work, fighting with - and/or re-arranging cats on my bed. Four - You have to get 7-8 hours sleep. Your brain cannot function well on less. I know many of you say you can do all on 4 hours - and I think I used to say this - but it’s just not true. If you think you can do everything on only four hours of sleep - just think what you could do with eight hours?! Five - you must listen to your body and to do this - sometimes you have to feel like you are outside your body - taking stock of all your systems and tell if you’re well.
Well, that is all I can remember at this time but there were other points but I guess I was not focusing on them. Anyway - it was a good show and I’ll tell you that if you are a member of AETN you get your monthly booklet and you can see what is coming on and so many of the shows are really good.
Like I said, I could look it up and tell you the name - but you can check it out yourself. I will look at it on the DVR again soon so as to remember all the stuff I didn’t get the first time around.
Facebook- you either love it or hate it. I originally hated it and was on there a couple of weeks and then cancelled my account but then so many of my friends and relatives kept saying, “Did you see my pictures on Facebook?” “Did you hear about yada, yada, yada on Facebook?” Well - I was peer pressured back into Facebook and now - I’m kinda happy I’m back on. At least I am seeing a side of some people that I don’t normally see and I even got my mom on Facebook and she’s having a great time, as she puts it, “just seeing what everyone else is doing.” So funny. Anyway, as Betty White put it - “it’s a terrible waste of time” and that is if you don’t watch your time. I think maybe you just put the egg timer on beside you - or on your smartphone and you hear it ticking, ticking, ticking and that irritates you and finally you have to leave the room and, tada!, you are off Facebook and onto other things (eating cupcakes, drinking caffeinated drinks at midnight, etc.). Or you could take up cat juggling….as Steve Martin warned about in The Jerk.
But, I wander….so it’s time to go get a caffeinated beverage (it’s only 11:42 p.m.).
