Lelia Mildred Simpson, age 96, of Beebe, Arkansas passed away March 21, 2013, at White County Hospital. She was a devout Christian, a loving wife, and devoted mother and grandmother. She was born at Vilonia, Arkansas on October 16, 1916, to the late Lewis Clements and Wincie (Kirby) Clements. She attended Vilonia Schools where she played basketball in high school and met her future husband Marvin Simpson. She continued her education later in life receiving her B.S.E. from Bethany Nazarene College in her early 40’s. She was an elementary teacher in Oklahoma and Arkansas while also being a devoted preacher’s wife. After retiring, she became a full-time homemaker for the remainder of her days.
She was preceded in death by her husband Reverend Marvin Simpson; two daughters, Shirley (Simpson) Nipper and Marilyn Kay Simpson; two granddaughters, Sabra Ann Nipper and Jacqueline Michelle Nipper; her parents, Lewis and Wincie Clements; and five brothers, Maynard Clements, Orland Clements, L.G. Clements, Elmer Joe Clements, and Bobby Clements.
She is survived by her one granddaughter Connie Kinman and husband Dalin; her son-in-law Tommy Nipper; one brother, Billy Clements of Amarillo, Texas; two sisters, Betty Anderson of Little Rock and Mary Ann Gray and her husband Leon of Conway; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the doctors and staff at the Searcy Medical Center, the nurses at White County Hospital, and the staff at Beebe Retirement Center for her care during her illness. Special thanks go to Bobbie Ivie for her special care at the Beebe Retirement Center.
Family received friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe. Funeral was 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 25, 2013, at Westbrook Funeral Home, with Rev. Steve Hall officiating.
