Beebe’s own, Cody Belew, gave a benefit concert for Project Graduation Saturday night, March 16th at Beebe Auditorium. Belew, a 10-yr. alumnus of Beebe High School, began his concert by singing the Badger Alma Mater from behind the curtain. When the curtain opened, he started singing “Crazy in Love” while wearing his own Badger letterman’s jacket - which he earned in choir - as he told the audience.
Belew spoke frequently with members of the audience and talked about his choir teacher Mrs. Janie Cunningham. The 7th, 8th and 9th grade choir sang along with Cody on “Somebody to Love.”
Cody talked with the crowd about is work with Heifer International - based in Little Rock. He was leaving the next day to go to Ecuador to see the work of Heifer International. He was asked to write a theme song for Heifer which is entitled “Say Love” - which he sang for the crowd. Cody said the idea that some children don’t have enough to eat was a special concern of his and that is why he is working with a charity organization which works with poor countries and communities to try and teach the people to grow/raise their own food. Footage for the new video for Heifer will be shot with Cody while he is there in Ecuador.
After the concert, Cody stayed around and signed pictures for fans and talked with old friends.
Cody was in the final eight contestants in last season’s “The Voice.”
Everyone had a great time and really enjoyed and appreciated Cody coming back to Beebe to do a concert for his former classmates and fans in Beebe.
