White County Medical Center Home Health Agency Telemedicine Nurse Kayla Burks, RN, recently spoke to the Searcy Senior Networking group about what the WCMC Home Health agency offers for patients.

“Our goal is to educate and empower our patients to live full lives by using the tools and techniques we provide to successfully manage their diseases,” she said.

The WCMC Home Health agency recently received a prominent HomeCare Elite status as one of the top 500 Home Health agencies in the nation out of 11,700 agencies, Burks added. Standards used to evaluate each agency included patient quality and positive experiences, processes used and financial performance.

In addition to chronic disease management, WCMC Home Health provides:  medication reconciliation, IV therapy, education and support, assessments, telemedicine, wound care, and obstetric and pediatric care.

The newest service WCMC Home Health offers is the telemedicine program; the agency currently has three video monitors in patient homes. In addition to a screen, which resembles a computer screen, the video conferencing system includes a thermometer, blood pressure cuff, stethoscope and pulse ox monitor. Through the equipment, Burks is able to check the vital signs of her patients during regular video chats.

Healthcare professionals from WCMC and other area agencies meet monthly as part of the Searcy Senior Networking group to discuss the best continuum of care for senior citizens in White County and surrounding counties.
