Robert Britton, 37, of Beebe, was found guilty Thursday, Feb. 21st, of stabbing to death his girlfriend in August 2010 in Greenbrier. The jury deliberated for less than two hours before coming to the guilty verdict in the Faulkner County Circuit Court.

Britton displayed erratic behavior after the verdict  and began reciting patriot Patrick Henry’s speech “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death” and then began chanting, “Free CCC,” and then began to sing a country-music song. His defense attorney, Pat Aydelott said that his client should be found innocent due to mental disease or defect.

Britton will face an automatic sentence of life in prison without parole since the prosecution waived the death penalty.

The trial lasted only 2 1/2 days.

The victim, Michelle N. Asher of Greenbrier, was only 26 at the time of her death.
