Badgers Travel to Vilonia For Double Header

VILONIA – The Badgers boys and girls basketball teams traveled to Vilonia Tuesday night,  December the 11th  for a double header with the Vilonia Eagles basketball teams.

In the opening girls’ game, the Lady Badgers jumped out to a quick 10-7 lead after the 1st quarter, but lost momentum in the 2nd quarter and trailed the Lady Eagles by the score of 23-20 at halftime.

After some halftime adjustments, the Lady Badgers came back and outscored the Lady Eagles by 5 points, taking a 34-32 lead going into the 4th quarter. But, after the Lady Badgers began to get into foul trouble, the Lady Eagles took advantage and outscored the Lady Badgers by 7 points in the final stanza and won the hard fought battle, 44-39.

Leading the Lady Badgers was Kalela Miller with 13 points, 7 rebounds and 1 assist – but, also fouled out in the game, which hurt the Lady Badgers down the stretch. Jamie Jackson added 12 points, 11 rebounds and 1 assist; Kelsie Brockway added 3 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists and Madison Richey also contributed with 5 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists.

The loss drops the ladies record to 5-4, with a game Friday night,  December 14th, against Little Rock JA Fair at Badger Arena starting at 6pm with the Jr. Varsity game, followed by the Varsity game.

In the second game of the night – the Badger boy’s team took on Vilonia’s boys team and got off to a slow start, trailing 10-6 after the 1st quarter. But, the Badgers turned up the heat in the 2nd quarter, outscoring the Eagles by 12 points, taking a 24-16 lead into the locker room at half time.

The Badgers continued to pour it on in the 3rd quarter and led by 14 points, 38-24, going into the 4th quarter. The boys continued their steady play, not letting the Eagles back into the game on their home floor and won the contest by 14 points, 54-40. The win puts the Badgers record at 5-1 going into their next road game on December 14th against Star City.

Leading the Badgers attack was Austin Burroughs with 19 points and 8 rebounds, followed closely by Tanner Chapman with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists. Jake Schlenker also added 11 points, 4 rebounds and 1 assist and Zach Baker added 9 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists. Jared Gowen also chipped in 2 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists in the Badgers winning effort.

The Badgers return home to play Little Rock Christian on Friday night,  December 21st at Badger Arena starting at 6p.m. Come out and support both of your Badger teams as they make another run at the State Playoffs this year!
