Auditions Set for Spring 2013 Theater PresentationsDec 20th, 2012 | By admin | Category: Entertainment
Auditions for the Arkansas State University-Beebe 2013 spring theater productions will be held Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013 and Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013 at 7 p.m. at the Owen Center Theater on the Beebe campus.
The spring theater productions will include Ubu Roi by Alfred Jarry. Directed by Don J. Eller, the event will be performed Feb. 22, 23 and 24, 2013. This stylized burlesque premiered in 1896 and is a precursor to the Theatre of the Absurd and Surrealism. In Ubu Roi, Jarry satirizes power, greed and complacency.
The Who’s Tommy by Pete Townshend and Des McAnuff, will be held April 12, 13, 14 and 15, 2013. Directed by Bruce Cohen, musical direction will be by Dr. Timothy Bartlett, and choreography by Michelle Dutasaca. The classic ’60s rock opera by The Who was translated to the stage by theatrical wizard Des McAnuff into a high-energy, one-of-a-kind theatrical event.
Everyone is welcome to audition and being a theater major is not a requirement. Those who wish to audition may perform a prepared monologue, or readings from the script will be provided.
Those auditioning for singing roles in Tommy should bring 16 measures of rock ‘n’ roll style music. An accompanist will be provided. Sheet music must be marked with clear beginning and end points. All transposition must be provided, as the accompanist will not transpose. Pre-recorded accompaniment, or singing acapella is also an option.
Call-back auditions for Tommy will be held Friday, Jan. 18, 2013 at 7 p.m. Dance auditions, if needed, will be held as a call-back.
