This was a strange year with Veterans Day falling on a Sunday. I know lots of people commemorated it on Friday and some on Monday but here in the city we commorated it on Veterans Day - Sunday, Nov. 11th.  We did hold it at 1 p.m. instead of 11 a.m. - so that people could come out after church. The American Legion Post 91 hosted the event and did a good job - as they always do. The AFJROTC raised the flags and some of the band came out and played for the crowd of about 100 people. The wind was really howling as a front was coming through a sporadic rain required umbrellas at several points during the ceremony which was finally moved into the ASU-Beebe Student Center. It was a moving ceremony - as it always is. I say this every year and I believe that you/we should at least honor those who have served and given so much by at least attending a Veterans Day ceremony. It is the least we can do.

Beebe native, Cody Belew, performed on “The Voice” tonight and did a great job - as usual. He was also featured on a segment at 10 p.m. on Channel 4 (KARK) which showed a clip of him performing at The Afterthought on Kavanaugh in Little Rock a few months or year ago and then traced his path going on to Nashville before competing on “The Voice.” We wish Cody all the luck and votes and hope that he will be the ultimate winner on the competition. Be sure to vote on Cody after he performs each night on “The Voice.” Go Cody!!!!

Have you ever noticed how many really talented people we have here in Beebe - or people who once lived here and have gone on to be successful in a wide range of fields. It is amazing to me. There are and have been so many talented people from Beebe. Must be the water….

This recent cold snap along with the time change has made me get my countdown calendar out for Dec. 21st - the shortest day of the year. I’m so ready for the days to start getting longer. But anyway I will have to wait.

Go to your happy place.

See you next week!
