The Badgers traveled to Blytheville Friday night to take on the Chickasaws and returned home with their first victory of the season by winning the contest 27-26.
With two of their top running backs out due to injury (Micheal Kirby and Eric Thorn), Coach Shannon shook things up and inserted Pearson Sloan into the backfield, which proved to be a very wise move, as he had 96 total yards of rushing – including touchdown runs of 1, 5, and 16 yards and a 3 yard touchdown run in the 4th quarter, to seal the Badgers’ first victory.
Pearson wasn’t alone in the ground attack though as the Badgers amassed 186 total yards on 56 carries. Quarterback Aaron Nunez had 52 yards rushing on 19 carries along with Dakota Mahoney adding 36 yards rushing on 15 carries.
Blytheville hung tough with the Badgers throughout and had 181 yards rushing on 29 carries and 62 yards passing on four pass completions, adding up to 243 yards of total offense. But, the Chickasaws could not overcome two costly turnovers and 91 yards in penalties that allowed the Badgers to bring home the win.
The Badgers (1-6 overall and 1-2 in conference play) return home for their final two home games of the season, beginning this Friday night, against an always tough Greene County Tech team and Nettleton the following week, with both games starting at 7:30 p.m., before traveling to Batesville on November 2nd to play the defending Conference Champion Pioneers, in their last regular season game.
Congratulations to the Badgers who are looking to finish the season strong with three more wins and a shot at post season play! Come out and support the team as they begin their quest this Friday night!!
