Historic Downtown Theater Demolished

It was a local historic building but the days of showing movies in the theater are long past. The last regular showings were in the late 1960’s. The theater is believed to have been built around 1924 - as one of the bricks had that date stamped on it. Lately, before the building came under severe and dangerous disrepair, the theater was home to a dance class. But those days have past now as workers from several different groups donated their time for the past several days to help demolish the old theater on E. Center Street (next to the Christian Outreach Center). The theater was donated to First Baptist Church by the Hayes family and plans are to make it a homeless shelter.
