School Board Approves District Budget of Almost $3 Million; Approves Athletic Budget of Almost $1 Million for 2012-2013 School Year

The Beebe School Board met Monday night for their regular meeting. They heard a presentation by Tammy Deaton, District Gifted and Talented Coordinator and Casey Woods, Gifted and Talented teacher for grades 10-12, about the AAIMS program. This program rewards students and teachers in the GT and Advanced Placement and Pre-AP classes when they score at pre-set levels on tests. Recently the students and teachers were awarded $4,300 for recent test scores. The program is funded through the state and provides incentives for students to take these classes which ultimately help them save money in college and make better grades.

In the action items, the board approved the 2012-2013 budget of $2,997,012.85 and an athletic budget of $982,364.18.

The board approved paying $18,502.96 to fix the tower which was struck by lightning and blocked out the internet and phone service at the Early Childhood Center. The board also approved paying $30,090. to purchase equipment for the broadcasting program which will be reimbursed by a grant.

Athletic expenditures for 2011-2012 was $1,344,245.70.

Resignations – Shamini Bassham, pre-k paraprofessional ; James Jackson, bus driver; and Deborah Jones, Media Specialist at Middle School.

Hiring - Ms. Peggy Heath, paraprofessional at Beebe Elementary; Ms. Jessica Stigler, kindergarten teacher; Stephen Andrews, city bus route driver; Charles Taylor, change contract from city bus route to country bus route.
