A reception was held Tuesday afternoon, July 10th, at the ASU-Beebe Student Center to honor the community service and service to the Beebe Chamber of Commerce by Dr. Ruth Couch - who retired from her position as Executive Director of the Chamber this July.
Among her many accomplishments, Dr. Couch has an extensive educational and professional background which includes: Bachelor’s degree from Southern Arkansas University with a degree in Education and an emphasis in English; Master’s degree in Education from Henderson State University; Doctorate degree in English from Oklahoma State; 9 1/2 yrs. teaching in Arkansas public schools and 3 1/2 years teaching at Oklahoma State; 32-years at ASU-Beebe as an Associate Professor, Professor, Division Chair, and Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs. She served as Vice Chancellor longer than any other in the history of ASU Beebe. Dr. Couch was the first full professor at ASU-Beebe and the first woman on ASU-Beebe campus to earn a doctorate. She was the first woman from Arkansas to attend the Leadership/Management Seminar at Baylor University.
She authored, This Land of Legend and a novel, No Bells Will Ring, published in 2009,
and has recorded No Bells Will Ring for the blind, 2010.
Dr. Couch served as the Chamber of Commerce Secretary for 18 years and served as the Executive Director for the Beebe Chamber of Commerce for 9 years. With a list of accomplishments that would fill this entire newspaper, we all wish Dr. Ruth Couch many more healthy, happy and community-filled years to come! We thank you for your years of selfless service.
