Friday, June 8

2pm- 4 pm          Animal Tracks, Pinnacle Mountain State Park is home to a wide variety of animals due to the different types of food, water and cover that is found here.  Come to the environmental education pond today to see if we can find evidence of the variety of animals found at the park and make some plaster casts of animal’s footprints. Meeting Place: Environmental Education Pond

Saturday, June 9

8 a.m. - 10 a.m., LADIES EAST SUMMIT TRAIL HIKE. Hey gals are you ready for a hike up the mountain? Meet Interpreter Maryanne at the East Summit trail head for a hike up the mountain on the East Trail, down the mountain on the West Trail and finally around the Base Trail back to the East Summit trail head. This will be a strenuous hike that will be very challenging and very beautiful! The hike will be around 3 miles long. Bring water, wear sturdy shoes and dress for the expected weather. Let’s Go Girls! Meeting place: East Summit trail head. Admission: Free

3 p.m. - 4 p.m. ARBORETUM TRAIL TREE IDENTIFICATION. Meet Interpreter Maryanne for a cool and relaxing walk around the Arboretum Trail while learning about the beautiful native trees of Arkansas.  Wear comfortable shoes, bring water to hydrate and even binoculars for bird sightings! Meeting place: Arboretum trail head

Tuesday, June 12- Friday, June 15

Nature Explorers Day Camp. This “nature detective” camp is designed for kids ages 7-10. There will be four whole days of hikes, visiting with live animals, nature programs, and more! Advance payment is required – space is limited to the first 10 campers. Meeting Place: Visitor Center Admission: $75 per child.

Wednesday, June 13

6 p.m. - 8 p.m. WILD WOMEN’S WEDNESDAY HIKE. Join Interpreter Maryanne for a hike of the Base Trail of Pinnacle Mountain. Length is 3 miles and the degree is moderately strenuous due to uneven terrain. Wear appropriate shoes and bring water. Ladies hikes will be offered every Wednesday through August 29th at 6:00 pm at Pinnacle Mountain, location will vary week to week. Please check for location. Meeting place: West Summit trail head. Admission: Free

Friday, June 15

10am- 11am. Animal Habitats Hike. The Kingfisher Trail is home to a wide variety of animals including snakes, turtles, woodpeckers and owls.  Join park Interpreter Richard on the Kingfisher Trail as we explore the many different homes of some of Pinnacle Mountain State Park’s residents. Meeting Place: Kingfisher Trail Head. Admission: Free

Saturday, June 16

10am-11:30am Father’s Day Lake Cruise. 1pm- 2:30 pm      Bring Dad out for a day of fishing on Lake Maumelle.  A park interpreter will be 3pm- 4:30pm    cruising the lake on the park’s pontoon to view the beautiful landscapes, historic structures, and the lake’s resident wildlife! Advance payment required.  Meeting Place: Jolly Roger Marina. Admission: $12 Adult; $6 Children (ages 6-12)

2pm- 3pm           I Ate a Bug. Bugs are found everywhere from cereal to rice to spaghetti.  You have probably eaten a bug and have not even realized it.  Discover some of the places where you may find bugs before eating a flavored cricket or mealworm.  You may even become a member of the “I Ate a Bug” club. Meeting Place: Visitor Center. Admission: Free

9pm- 11pm. Star Party. Join amateur astronomers at the visitor center for an evening with the stars and other celestial phenomena.  As twilight settles in, the Central Arkansas Astronomical Society will provide telescopes for viewing objects in the night sky. If cloudy skies prevent observation, an indoor program on astronomy will be presented at 9 p.m. Meeting Place: Visitor Center Admission: Free

Sunday, June 17

6:30 pm- 9:30 pm Father’s Day Sunset Canoe Float. Explore the Big Maumelle River with dad as nighttime unfolds.  Possible sights and sounds for the night include bats, coyotes, deer, owls, beaver…and maybe even the elusive alligator!  Advance payment is required.  Meeting Place: Big Maumelle Boat Launch. Admission: $35 per canoe

Tuesday, June 19- Friday, June 22

Wilderness Explorer’s Day Camp. Older children ages 11-13 will enjoy this chance to explore the wilderness at Pinnacle Mountain State Park. Camp activities may include canoe/kayak floats, extensive hiking, and survival skills. The camp will end with an overnight camping opportunity Wednesday night including dinner provided by park staff. Advance payment is required.

Wednesday, June 20

6 p.m. - 8 p.m. WILD WOMEN’S WEDNESDAY HIKE. Join interpreter Maryanne for a hike up the newly rebuilt west side of Pinnacle Mountain. Length is 1.75 miles and the degree is moderately to very strenuous due to uneven terrain and steep incline. Wear appropriate shoes and bring water. Ladies hikes will be offered every Wednesday through August 29th at 6:00 pm at Pinnacle Mountain, location will vary week to week. Please check for location. Saturday, June 23

9 am- 2 pm, Little Maumelle Kayaking Adventure. Explore Pinnacle Mountain State Park on a kayak with a park interpreter as your guide.  Hunt for some of our feathered and reptilian friends while enjoying the peaceful surroundings of the Little Maumelle River.  Advance payment required. Meeting Place: Little Maumelle Boat Launch. Admission: $35 per kayak

Sunday, June 24

8 a.m. - 11 a.m. OUACHITA TRAIL HIKE AND INFORMATION. Join Interpreter Maryanne for a 2.5 mile hike on the Ouachita Trail (OT). The hike will begin at the Ouachita Trail, trail head by the visitor center, head towards the East Summit trail head and then double back to the starting OT trail head . The degree is moderately to very strenuous due to uneven terrain and steep incline. Wear appropriate shoes and bring water.  There will be summer changes on the OT, this information will be provided along with other OT news. Meeting place: Ouachita Trail trail head. Admission: Free

2 pm- 2:30 pm. Wild Turkey. Pinnacle Mountain State Park is the perfect place to find wild turkeys due to the suitable food, water and cover that is found here.  Enter the fascinating world of wild turkeys today as we explore the reasons why Pinnacle Mountain State Park is such a suitable habitat for these birds.  Afterwards, we will be hearing the different sounds of the wild turkeys and try to use some callers.

3 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. WHERE ARE THE WILD ANIMALS? Join Interpreter Maryanne for a program on how Camouflage is the secret to survival in the forest.  An activity will provide examples of camouflage’s ability to make animals disappear before our very eyes. Meeting place: Playground

7:30 pm- 9pm. Sunset Lake Cruise. Experience the vibrant colors of the setting sun while cruising over the calm waters of Lake Maumelle near the base of Pinnacle Mountain.  A park interpreter will serve as your pilot and guide on this boat tour.  Dress in layers for cool evening temperatures.  Advance payment required.

Monday, June 25

10 am- 11am, Morning Stroll. Take a hike with park Interpreter Richard on this fairly easy ¾ mile trail as we learn about the different regions of Arkansas and the trees and wildlife found there. Meeting Place: Arboretum Trail Head. Admission: Free

2pm- 5pm. Butterfly Walk

Zebra swallowtails, monarchs, painted ladies: These are all butterflies that can be found at Pinnacle Mountain State Park.  Meet at the Visitor Center to see if we can view some of these butterflies at our butterfly garden.  Afterwards, we will be taking a hike on the 2-mile Rocky Valley Trail to try to spot some butterflies.  This is a moderately strenuous trail so wear sturdy shoes and bring plenty of water. Meeting Place: Visitor Center. Admission: Free

Tuesday, June 26- Friday, June 29

Adventure Overnight Camp. Adventure Camp is a 4-day, 3-night camp designed to introduce children ages 11-13 to the wonders of our natural world. Our outdoor laboratory allows us to explore forests, streams, ponds and meadows while having fun! Campers will be setting up their own campsite and cooking (and cleaning up after) their own meals, becoming more independent and confident in outdoor settings. Advance payment is required. Meeting Place: Visitor Center. Admission: $ 150 per child

Wednesday, June 27

6 p.m. - 8 p.m. WILD WOMEN’S WEDNESDAY HIKE. Ladies hike along the Rocky Valley Trail led by Interpreter Maryanne. The Rocky Valley Trail is a gorgeous trail and one of the best kept secrets of Pinnacle. The length is 3 miles and the degree is moderately strenuous due to uneven terrain and moderate incline. Wear appropriate shoes and bring water. Ladies hikes will be offered every Wednesday through August 29th at 6:00 pm at Pinnacle Mountain, location will vary week to week. Please check for location. Meeting place: Visitor Center Parking Area

Friday, June 29

2 pm- 3 pm         Fill the Bill. What does the hummingbird have a curved beak?  Why is the woodpecker’s beak pointed?  Why do birds beaks look the way they do?  Discover why different birds need such unique beaks through the highly entertaining and interactive Fill the Bill game.

Saturday, June 30

8 a.m. - 10 a.m. HIKING WITH YOUR DOG! Join Interpreter Maryanne for an informative program on hiking with your dog.  Learn about the products available to make your outings enjoyable and safe for you and your dog.  There will be a short 1 mile hike on the Rocky Valley Trail loop after the program.  Please bring your dog, wear good shoes and remember water for you and your pup! Meeting place: Rocky Valley Trail, trail head. Admission: Free

3 p.m. - 4 p.m.

THE COLORS OF THE KINGFISHER TRAIL

Join Interpreter Maryanne for a walk along the Kingfisher trail while noticing all of the colors of nature.  See how many of the colors you can identify on this walk.  Wear comfortable shoes and remember water for hydration.  Let your senses come alive on this beautiful trail! Meeting place: Kingfisher trail head

7 pm- 10 pm       Sunset on the Mountain

Park Interpreter Courtney will be leading a hike up Pinnacle Mountain’s West Summit Trail for a special sunset viewing. This is a great hike for the whole family to get outdoors and active, while learning how to be safe, hiking at dusk. Please wear sturdy shoes and bring plenty of water for hydration.
