The Lady Badgers had to go two extra innings Monday April 9, but came out victorious against a stubborn Harding Academy team, 1-0. The Lady Badgers won on a fielder’s choice by Megan Davlin that scored Madelyn Poe in the bottom of the 9th inning. (Madelyn had started the inning on 2nd base due to the rule that each team gets a 2nd base runner, to start the inning, if the game is tied after 7 innings).
Pitching was the name of this game, with Ellie Reaves pitching a shutout through 9 innings and only being challenged once in the top of the 3rd when Harding Academy loaded the bases on a walk, single and a batter being hit by a pitch. With one under her belt, Ellie delivered two more strike outs to strike out the side and end the threat.
After leaving the bases loaded in the 1st inning, the Lady Badgers had a tough time getting on base the next five innings, due to great pitching by Harding Academy. The Badgers Courtney Caldwell walked in the bottom of the 7th inning with two outs, but was caught stealing second base, ending the inning. The 8th inning played out much like the game had with both teams failing to get a hit, but after holding Harding Academy hitless in the top of the 9th the Lady Badgers came out swinging in the bottom of the 9th inning with Sarah White hitting a double and Megan Davlin getting the game winning fielder’s choice to end the contest, stretching the Lady Badgers record to 11-4 overall this season.
The Lady Badgers will be home to face Southside April 12th and host the annual Beebe/Searcy Invitational Tournament April 14th.
