“The Fantasticks” Open April 28th at ASU

“The Fantasticks,” by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt, is certainly a classic. It is, arguably, the most produced musical in history. The appeal is universal and well established. But, with such popularity, comes the danger of mediocrity. Most productions of this show will seem very familiar and formulaic… producing expected characterizations, designs and interpretations. “The Fantasticks” is chiefly a coming of age story… a boy and girl discovering what it is to be really-real, adult men and women. Re-imagining of this show sets the action in a slightly sleazy, slightly fantastic carnival and all the alternately dangerous and charming characters that go with that world.
