The Lady Badgers competed in the first game of the tournament against a tough Trumann team in Beebe Saturday, April 14th at Gillam Fields.
Both teams went scoreless during the 1st inning with Trumann also going down 1-2-3 in the top of the 2nd inning. The Lady Badgers heated up in the bottom of the 2nd inning when Trumann walked three straight batters and Madelyn Poe singled to score Lanie Reaves and Courtney Shepard, to put the Lady Badgers up 2-0 after two innings.
Trumann started the top of the 3rd inning with a single, but then went down in order. The Lady Badgers were back in business in the bottom of the 3rd inning when Sarah White singled and Lanie Reaves walked, bringing Courtney Shepard to the plate - who promptly singled - scoring Sarah. Lanie was thrown out trying to steal 3rd base and Courtney Caldwell had a fly out to end the 3rd inning with the Lady Badgers leading 3-0.
The 4th inning started with Trumann hitting into two straight ground outs and getting a single, but were quickly retired after another fly out. The Lady Badgers struck quickly to begin the bottom of the 4th inning with hits by Calah Hill, Madelyn Poe and Brittany Gentry, who scored Calah from 3rd base, making the score 4-0 Lady Badgers. Megan Davlin then popped out and Brittany was thrown out trying to steal 2nd base. During all the action, Madelyn Poe was able to steal home plate to make it a 5-0 Lady Badger lead. The Lady Badgers then got back-to-back hits from Sarah White and Makenzie Bingham and a walk to Lanie Reaves to load the bases. Courtney Shepard then came up big again with another hit to score Sarah, but Makenzie was then thrown out at home plate, ending the inning with the Lady Badgers leading 6-0.
The 5th inning started out much like the other innings, with Trumann grounding out three times and only mustering up one single during the top of the inning. The bottom of the 5th saw the Lady Badgers score one last run by Madelyn Poe, after she singled and worked her way around the bases during the inning, she stole home plate, making it a 7-0 Lady Badger lead.
Trumann started out the top of the 6th inning with a ground out and fly out, only to hit two back to back singles, but the Lady Badgers were up for the task as Ellie Reaves struck out the last batter of the inning, to make it a Lady Badger 7-0 victory, due to tournament timing rules.
The Lady Badgers played Westside in the 2nd game of the winners bracket, after they defeated Benton in the second game of the tournament.
