Coach Greg Richey talks with his players during a recent tourney game.

When Greg Richey left Greene County Tech last year to accept the Lady Badger’s basketball team head coaching job, he came here for one reason, to build a winner. It hasn’t taken him long. The Lady Badgers have jumped to the forefront of the 5A East this year with a final record of, 21-8. (11-5 in conf). The Lady Badgers made it to the state Quarter Finals, but lost to an extremely good Greenwood team, who ended the year by holding the 5A Championship Banner at Summit Arena in Hot Springs two week’s ago. (Greenwood moves up a division next year to 6A).

Garnering postseason awards were three very important parts of Coach Richey’s team: Jamie Jackson, Angelina Williams and Kalela Miller were all named to the 5A East All -Conference Team.  Also Jamie Jackson and Angelina Williams were named All -State.

Jamie Jackson’s awards didn’t stop there. She was named to the All-State Tournament Team for her performance during the state tournament, averaging 18.5 points per game. But, last and certainly not least, Jamie was named “Player of  the Year,” averaging 19 points per game, by the coaches in the 5 A East! And don’t worry – all three Lady Badgers will return next year, joined by several talented underclassmen over the next few years. And don’t forget the 7th grade team that went undefeated this season,18-0!

In short, the future looks very bright for the Badger teams and Coach Richey   (who told me these girls would probably play in 35-40 games in summer camps).

Congratulations again to the entire Lady Badger team and thanks for a great season!
