One bad thing about writing a weekly column is that you can think of what you want to write about - then you start pondering it and you think, “Have I already written about this?” But I figure, if I can’t remember - maybe you can’t either.
All this to talk about my daily dog show. Yes, I do have dogs. I know you think that I just have cats, but I actually have 3 outside dogs. We have a pen that is about a 1/4 acre for them to run and play in - and play they do. Almost every morning, depending on the weather, my dogs get out and play “King on the Mountain” on three hay bales I have positioned them in a “U” shape. One will get up on one hay bale and the other two try to pull him/her off. I have two males and a female. They are hilarious. My female dog, Lucy, is so funny. When I let them out in the fenced area where my pool is, Lucy will run straight down the middle of the cover with water coming up about 6-12 inches on her depending on how much rain we’ve had. She runs so fast she creates a wake. Now, she likes to do that much more than she likes swimming but I do pull her into the pool during the summer. It’s free entertainment - well not really free - but somewhat inexpensive. It is so fun to watch them play! If you have outside dogs - I would recommend getting them some hay bales to play on. I’m getting ready to change mine out. They are starting to grow mushrooms.
My mom and I got to go visit my Aunt Mary (my dad’s sister) and two cousins Billie & Judy -in Clinton the other day. We really enjoyed visiting with them. They are all such good cooks - and really funny. We always enjoy visiting with them. I promised my cousin that I would give her my recipe for shrimp dip (which is in our old Methodist cookbook). Here it is, Judy:
1/2 lb. finely chopped, cooked shrimp, 2 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese; 3/4 c. mayonnaise or Miracle Whip; 1 small container sour cream, 2 Tbsp. grated onion, 2 Tbsp. minced celery, 2 tsp. lemon juice; 1/4 tsp. salt; 4 drops Tabasco sauce and 1 Tbsp. minced green pepper. Mix all ingredients together. Let chill 1 hour. Servie with crackers or raw vegetables.
