Having never met Richardo Delacruz  but reading about his situation in The Beebe News in November 2011, Deborah Thompson, who is working in Afghanistan, decided to do something to help Ricardo and his family. Richardo, who is being treated for leukemia at UAMS in Little Rock,  and his wife have five children, the youngest born just last week. Ricardo is a waiter at the local Mexican restaurant, Kandela Grill (formerly Chipotle Grill). The family struggles with everyday life along with ongoing medical bills.  Deborah, who has travelled extensively in the Middle East, decided to take much of her souvenirs and put them in a silent auction at First Security Bank with the proceeds all going to Richardo and his family. Deborah has worked at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan as a biometric clerk for ITT since June of  2010. She is a native of Beebe.

First Security Bank will graciously host the silent auction which will be up and running today through about March 22.

Some of the items which will be available for auction are:

Silk scarves, t-shirts and hats with military insignias, coffee mugs, t-shirts (long sleeve and short), sweatshirt hoodie, mink stole, parka - 3 in 1, belly dancer outfit, jewelry that a belly dancer wears, handmade bedspread, cashmere bedspread - queen/king size, toiletries, foreign money, native Afghan clothes, table runners,  Bible with Jimmy Swaggart’s autograph, and much, much more. Even if you don’t want to purchase anything - you will enjoy seeing all the items from the Middle East.

The silent auction will be held at the main branch of First Security Bank on Dewitt Henry Drive.
