For the second straight year the Badgers have inked their 20th regular season win, also sending them to the State Tournament once again. They achieved both goals by beating a feisty Paragould team (7-19 and 4-10 in conference) 61-43 Friday night at Badger Arena on Senior night. The win boosts the Badgers record to 20-6 and 11-3 in conference (2nd place).
After winning the opening tip and never looking back, the Badgers stretched a three point halftime lead (28-25) to a fourteen point lead by the end of the third quarter (47-33) and eighteen points by the end of the game. Leading the Badgers was Dayton Scott with 23 points followed closely by Zack May with 19 points, including 5 huge 3 point shots. Paragould was led by JJ Jimenez with 12 points and Dexter Thompson with 8 points.
Coach Marshall was extremely happy with his team of “over-achievers” and stated “I think we are playing our best basketball going into the tournament. We set out with the goals this year to not only get better, but win twenty games again, win conference, and make it to the State Tournament two years in a row. We accomplished everything but winning conference and a lot of years an 11-3 record would put you there.” Coach Marshall went on to say ,“season before last these guys only won four games and our Senior leadership has been huge in getting us back on track to back- to- back twenty win seasons.”
The Badgers will begin play in the Regional Tournament at GCT in Paragould beginning Wednesday, February 29th.
Congratulations Coach Marshall and the Badgers on the 20 wins!
Congratulations Badgers on back -to-back twenty win seasons and State Tournament bids!
