March Events at Toltec Mounds State Park

Girl Scout Day - March 3, 2012- 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Girl Scouts are invited to earn their Toltec Mounds Patch by participating in a tour of the prehistoric mound site and completing a site explorer activity. Scouts can earn additional patches by participating in Girl Scout Rocker Days held throughout the year.  Participants must register through Toltec Mounds Archeological State Park by calling 501-961-9442.  Space is limited; reservations are required.

Admission:  $3 per person, leaders free.

Spring Equinox Celebration, March 17, 2012, 4 – 7:30 p.m. The Plum Bayou Culture built this unique mound complex over 1,000 years ago.  Activities at this ceremonial center may have included games, feasts and other special celebrations.  Starting at 4 p.m., visitors can participate in a Native American tools and weapons demonstration and use weapons similar to the ones used here so long ago.  At 5 p.m., the resident archeologist will make a presentation on how the mounds are arranged to coincide with solar events. Following the presentation, park interpreters will give a guided tour of the mound site to observe the sunset over Mound A.  Admission:  $4 adult, $3 kids ages 6-12, under 6 free.

Artifact I.D. Day, March 24, 2012, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Solve a mystery!  Have you ever wanted to know more about those “arrowheads” and pottery pieces that you found as a kid?  Bring them to the Toltec Visitor Information Center to let our resident archeologist take a look at them.  Visitors are invited to bring up to five artifacts to be reviewed.  (No appraisals.)

Directions: Toltec Mounds Archeological State Park is located 15 miles southeast of Little Rock on US Hwy. 165 between Scott and England, Arkansas.  The park is open Tuesday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.  Phone:  501-961-9442
