What’s Left?Feb 29th, 2012 | By admin | Category: Opinion
This morning (Tues.) I went to the store and bought a Coke and a Red Bull. I felt that I had to have that extra caffeine to get me through this day. This is the first week of our new schedule which, in effect, means that we go to press on Tues. night - since our actual press schedule is early Wed. morning. So, we’re trying to get everything done by the end of the regular work day today. It has been stressful for me - change always is - but I’m trying to deal with it without getting too upset. But what I was really going to write about is that when I got the Red Bull and I pulled the tab and started to drink it, I realized that I had no idea where the top of that can had been. I did wipe it off with a tissue before I started to drink it and I don’t have that problem with Cokes because I always drink out of a bottle. I really don’t like the cans for that reason. So, I wonder how many of you think about that before you start to drink our of a can? For that matter, when you go to a fast food restaurant - or any restaurant - and they give you paper napkins, don’t you wonder if you could do a germ swab on that napkin - what would turn up? Maybe we don’t want to know. But if you think about all the ways in which our food and our utensils are handled - it’s a wonder that we’re not all sick all the time. Yea for the immune system. However, as you get older, I remember this from my class in Immunology, the graph of how well our immune system works starts to edge over (down) when we hit about 35-40, and goes down at about a 45-degree angle for several years - until we die. Not to be a downer - but that is why we need to watch what we eat and the way in which our food and utensils are handled - at home and out to eat. I’m not a germaphobe -couldn’t be with all my cats - but I do think about all that stuff and probably would be a germaphobe if I could do it. Even as I say that I am wishing that I had my Lysol to wipe off my computer keyboard……oh, well.
I hope you are having a great Spring week - with this beautiful weather (hopefully no bad weather tonight).
Go to your happy place!
See you next week.
