What’s Left? By Lee McLaneSep 22nd, 2011 | By admin | Category: Opinion
I hope you think about and realize how fortunate you are to live in the United States of America. I think about it often and sometimes when I hear of bizarre news stories from other countries (which is every day) it makes me more thankful that I live here. Case in point - yesterday I saw a news story on Yahoo that told of a poor 14-year-old girl that was put in a Brazilian prison with men. She was smuggled in and was in there for two or three days suffering all sorts of atrocities - as you might imagine - before someone got her out. When asked about the issue, the Brazilian authorities said, yes, it was unfortunate but sometimes even women offenders have been placed in prison with men. When I hear something like this- not only did they do something horrible - they don’t even admit or realize that it was a big deal!!!!! I don’t know what products I might use that come from Brazil but I can tell you, I will (and do) read every label and if it comes from that country - I will not buy it. Women are substandard citizens in Brazil. Women of the U.S. - take note - and do not help the Brazilian government by purchasing any products from there.
I usually read all the labels of clothing and anything else I’m purchasing - especially food. You have to be careful because some of your “fresh fish or seafood” are farm raised in some very foreign country. I don’t trust that other countries watch over their food products as they should. Well - we don’t either. We need to step up our standards of quality control on just about everything. But, this is to the average citizen - you have to do your own policing of the foods and anything else that you buy. Don’t expect the government to watch out for you - but our country is, in my opinion, the best in the world.
Go to your happy place.
See you next week! Go Badgers!
